After a quick test on the map and adding the first zones, I realized there was a problem… The map is way too big! It takes 3 minutes to cross from one end to the other… I had to find a solution. And I did! The simplest fix is to cut the map size in half (keeping proportions intact — the height map and detail maps won’t change, but the island will now have a 2:1 scale ratio).
Also, I’m trying to get the grass to look a bit better, but I haven’t found anything that feels right yet. And I don’t really have the time to make it myself. On top of that, the shaders I currently have either look bad or are not performant.Basically, I have to choose between Unlit and a Lit shader that adds 4000 extra draw calls.
I’m tweaking it a bit for now, but I’ll come back to it later — as it is, the frame loss is just too big.
The rest of the week will be dedicated to the UI. After some research, I found some interesting elements. I recreated the MI6 logo in Photoshop and used it as inspiration for my MI13.
I also looked at documents from other countries and came across a cool interface idea involving classified files and secret agents.
The menu will look like a sheet coming out of a classified folder, with black-and-white photos, etc. The other menus will look like sheets being inserted back into the folder.
I’m prepping all the slices so I can export everything in one go to Unity — and just like that, I’ve got myself a nice little interface!
Final touch!
The logo will be the game’s logo and needs to be a parody — not the original one (or I’ll end up being chased by real secret agents!). I chose a cat and a rabbit — it’s hilarious.
It's the weekend but I don’t feel like stopping!
I’m jumping into the sound part — adding and setting up FMOD, which I really love using. So I’m preparing the sound banks, the channels, and the code integration in Unity for mixing, so everything will be ready for the voice-overs.
I’m also looking for some samples for sound effects and creating a few tracks via Suno in the style I’m aiming for: Afro-Cuban music ranging from jazz to bossa nova and a bit of samba. A small selection of chill tracks that really fit the mood.
